Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? You’re not alone. Below, we cover many of the things pet parents ask us most.

Appointments

How often should my pet see a veterinarian?

Most dogs and cats benefit from annual wellness exams. Senior pets or those with chronic conditions may need visits every six months. Preventive exams allow us to detect subtle changes before they become serious health concerns.

Yes. If your pet is sick, injured, or showing unusual symptoms, call us right away. We provide urgent care during business hours and will guide you on next steps if emergency referral is needed.

Bring any previous medical records, a list of medications or supplements, and notes about recent symptoms or behavioral changes. If you’re a new client, ask about our $75 new client offer when scheduling.
We accept CareCredit to help make veterinary care more manageable. Our team is happy to review estimates with you and answer financial questions before treatment begins.
Please bring any previous medical records, vaccination history, and a list of current medications or supplements. Dogs should be on a leash, and cats should arrive in a secure carrier to ensure a safe, low-stress visit.

Financing

You can apply online through CareCredit’s website, or our team can help guide you through the application process during your visit.

Prequalification allows you to see if you’re likely to be approved without impacting your credit. A full credit check only occurs if you proceed with a formal application.

In most cases, yes, it can be applied toward exams, surgery, dental procedures, diagnostics, and other treatments. Our team can confirm eligibility for specific services before you proceed.

Yes. The comparison tool is available at no cost and allows you to review multiple insurance providers without obligation.

Typically, you pay your veterinary bill upfront and then submit a claim to your insurance provider for reimbursement based on your policy’s coverage terms.

Enrollment is usually most beneficial when pets are young and healthy, as pre-existing conditions are typically not covered. Starting early can provide more comprehensive protection over time, at a lower rate.

Services

Many conditions, including kidney disease, diabetes, dental disease, and heart abnormalities, begin without obvious symptoms. Routine exams allow us to detect early warning signs through physical assessment and screening tests.

We perform a full physical exam, review medical history, discuss behavior and lifestyle changes, and recommend preventive care based on findings. If screening tests are appropriate, we explain why and how they support early detection.

Not all vaccines are administered annually. Some provide longer-lasting immunity, and in certain cases, titer testing can measure protection levels. We build vaccination plans based on risk, age, and lifestyle rather than a blanket schedule.

Most dogs and cats are considered seniors around age seven, though this varies by breed and size. As pets age, we often recommend more frequent exams and screening tests to monitor organ function and mobility changes more closely.

Changes in appetite, weight, thirst, energy level, mobility, or behavior warrant evaluation. Even subtle shifts can indicate early health concerns. If something feels different, it’s worth scheduling an appointment.

Age alone isn’t a disqualifier. What matters is overall health. We perform pre-anesthetic bloodwork and diagnostics to evaluate organ function and anesthesia tolerance. Many senior pets recover beautifully when proper precautions are taken.

Most soft tissue surgeries require 10–14 days of restricted activity. We provide clear recovery instructions, pain medication, and signs to monitor at home. If you ever have concerns, our team is available to guide you.

Pain management is built into every surgical plan. We administer medication during and after the procedure to keep discomfort controlled. Your pet may be sleepy initially, but ongoing pain should be minimal and manageable.

Costs vary depending on the procedure and diagnostics required. We provide clear estimates before moving forward. We also accept CareCredit and offer a $75 new client special to make initial care more accessible.

Contact us if you notice excessive swelling, discharge, bleeding, vomiting, lethargy beyond expected sedation, or changes in appetite. Early communication allows prompt intervention if needed.

Most dogs and cats benefit from a professional dental evaluation annually. The frequency of cleanings depends on breed, age, and individual risk factors. Some pets may require more frequent care if periodontal disease develops quickly.

Yes. Thorough cleaning requires scaling below the gumline, where the majority of disease occurs. Anesthesia ensures safety, proper assessment, and complete removal of tartar and bacteria.

Signs may include reluctance to chew hard food, drooling, pawing at the mouth, or changes in behavior. However, many pets show minimal outward signs, which is why routine exams are important.

Yes. Up to 60% of each tooth lies below the gumline. Dental radiographs allow us to detect root infections, bone loss, and hidden fractures that cannot be seen during a visual exam.

Untreated infection can lead to tooth loss, jaw bone damage, and systemic infection affecting other organs. Addressing dental disease early reduces the risk of more complex and costly treatment later.

All swim sessions are private. Your dog and family will have exclusive access to the pool during your reservation.

Yes. Swimming is often especially beneficial for puppies learning new activities and senior dogs who need low-impact exercise.

Many dogs instinctively swim, but we recommend introducing new swimmers gradually. Owners are present during sessions and can help their pets feel comfortable in the water.

You may bring towels, toys, or treats to help encourage your dog during their swim session.

Pool reservations are made by calling our hospital. Our team will help schedule a one-hour private session that works with your availability.
